Meta Tags are the hidden content used by Google, Bing, Yahoo and other Search engines. Your Meta Tags and Associated information are set both at the Site Level and the Page Level. We will look at these seperately.

Page Level

To set your Meta Tags Login to your ChurchHost site. Select a page from your menu and then select settings.

There are 3 settings here important to Search Engine Optimization. But each revolves around the idea of Keywords. Keywords are where you want your page to show in Google or bing or another search engine. When someone searches for a particular set of words whether or not your website shows up in the results depends on whether those words are on the page and where how and what order they show up on the page. For church websites the most likely keywords are "Church", [Denomination] and [City]. Another comon Keyword is the Name of your church.

Page Title:- This will be seen by both those searching for your site and once they visit the page it will appear at the top of the browser page or in the tab. These are probably the most importand location for your keywords. Church Host recommends that you use your church name followed by your City name and state for the title of your home page. For Example First Baptist Church of New York - New York, NY one note on titles though we recommend you limit the length of the titles to no more then 65 characters. Any characters over 65 will likely get truncated by search engines and excessive length will make the search engine actually lower your ranking.

Description:- This is used by search engines to describe the page. This is also used as a priority when determining the results of the search engines. This description can be longer then the title. Use words that describe your church. If someone is searching for a "Contemporary church in New York" or a "KJV Church". Make sure your description matches your church. Each page needs a unique description. Use the Description on your home page to describe your church. Use the descriptions on other pages to describe aspects of your church related to the contents of the page. If you use the same description on every page you will lose ranking go throw each page add a description that reads well and sounds good. Don't just list a bunch of "Keywords".

Keywords:- These words are never seen. They should reflect the contents unique to this page. Make sure these words actually reflect the content of the page. Keywords to use on all pages are set in the next step.

There are settings used for pages that have no settings of thier own or in the case of keywords will be appended to the setting that do exist.

Title:- Used for pages that have no other title. Church Host recommends that you use your church name followed by your city name and state for the title. For Example First Baptist Church of New York - New York, NY one note on titles though we recommend you limit the length of the titles to no more then 65 characters. Any characters over 65 will likely get truncated by search engines and excessive length will make the search engine actually lower your ranking.

Description:- Used for pages that do not have a description set. For Example First Baptist Church of New York - New York, NY one note on titles though we recommend you limit the length of the titles to no more then 65 characters. Any characters over 65 will likely get truncated by search engines and excessive length will make the search engine actually lower your ranking.
